Teaching

A valuable contribution to our pedagogic repertoire
— Richard Aaron; Juilliard, Aspen and U. of Michigan
An excellent addition to the serious cellist’s etude arsenal
— ASTA Journal's Review
Five minutes a day will produce improved intonation awareness; better arm/hand/finger balance; and increased dexterity and independence of fingers.
— Tanya Carey; Roosevelt University and Music Institute of Chicago

Horacio’s teaching philosophy has as a core to assist students in developing an emotionally and physically healthy association with music. He bases his methodology on a continuous evaluation of the particular needs and goals of each individual student. To that end, Horacio not only researches the methods of the most successful teachers from the past and the present, but he also strives to discover new repertoire to help his students find their own artistic voice. Horacio continuously creates new exercises that are adapted to the needs of his own students as well. His adaptation for cello of the celebrated Exercises in Various Combinations of Double-Stops by Dr. Roland Vamos was published by Carl Fischer.

Horacio’s students have continued their studies in prestigious schools of music in the US and Europe. They have made recordings, and soloed in concertos and recitals nationally and internationally. They have been awarded prizes at international and national competitions in the US and Canada. His former students have earned teaching positions and orchestral principal and section positions in orchestras such as Metz Orchestra (France), Simón Bolívar Orchestra (Venezuela) Guayaquil Orchestra (Ecuador) and others.

Horacio’s previous teaching positions include the El Sistema’s Latin American Cello Academy and the Universidad de Los Andes in Venezuela, University of Michigan’s String Preparatory Academy, and Lawrence University.
